I must make some things clear before I write my initial post for The Wastes RolePlay.
Do not godmod. This is when you/your character use/s powers you clearly do not have. For example, if I was a dragon, I couldn't shift into a cat, because the dragons used in this RolePlay only have a human form and a dragon form. Understood?
Do not powerplay. This is when you/your character controlls the actions of another character in the RolePlay. Take, for example, narrative RolePlay. You can't controll other people's actions, yet you can controll yours.
No profanity/vulgar language.
No innapropriate content. I'd like to keep this RolePlay PG-13, thanks.
Please do not stray from the RolePlay topic or time. I will ask a forum moderator or admin to delete any posts that I see unfit for the RolePlay topic, I don't take kindly to people who join a RolePlay and then only sit around and chat with others. RolePlays are for RolePlaying, people!
Try to RolePlay with multiple people. Keeping a RolePlay all to yourself isn't very fun.
Listen to other people. If someone says '*character name* looked around at the fall leaves drifting noncholantly down from the trees in the moonlight,' you can assume two things from that post. 1, it is night-time, and 2, it is fall. You cannot say in your next post, '*character name* walked briskly through the spring flowers in the sunshine'.
If this is too much to ask of you, this obviously isn't a good RolePlay for you. I have my limits, and these are the rules I'm setting up for this RolePlay. Oh, and just keep in mind, my posts are fairly long, and yours can be whatever length you choose them to be . I don't post very short posts very often, I like to be good and descriptive.
I'm sorry if having all of these rules bug you, I just would like to keep this RolePlay user-friendly.
Hopefully you all understand my antics. I will post my initial post in a comment to follow, so no-one post until my first post is posted. If that even made sense to any of you. I would like to be the first to post, seeing as I am the one who created this RolePlay. :)
Best Regards,
-ArcaneCanineArtist

She couldn't help but notice that night was falling fast. The sun was setting at a considerably fast rate behind the tree-covered mountains. Light was fading quickly from the ambiance, apart from the occasional oil lamp lighting up a part of the street. The girl of 18 years crept along the rooftop of what appeared to be a supermarket, and her dark clothing made it harder to see her. Not impossible, just harder. Her name was Scarlet Hawthorne.
Scarlet's long, black hair blew into her face, yet she gave no sign of noticing. Her eyes were fixed on something else: The merchant selling over-ripe oranges to passerby below. Her stomach gave a weak grumble, as if to confirm her macabre thoughts.
She walked over to the edge of the roof, her left hand flying to her scimitar hilt (Scarlet was a left-handed being, after all). Removing her hand from the hilt of her weapon, she turned her head at a slight angle to the right so that it wouldn't be harmed from what she was about to do. Leaning forward, she dove off of the building, falling what could have been thirty or forty feet, and landing easily in an almost silent parkour roll. The merchant turned his head in Scarlet's direction, obviously surprised that a girl had just dropped from a roof and got back up unharmed. The merchant, smiling broadly, held out three oranges in a splayed hand towards Scarlet in an offering gesture.
"You want orange? One dollar." He said with a very noticeable slur.
Scarlet walked forward with cold intentions, unsheathed her scimitar (and at this point, the merchant's face had gone from smiling and happy to frowning and wary), and pressed it to the merchant's neck threateningly.
"Yes, I would very much like an orange." She took the oranges from the man's hand, and without consenting to pay the sum which she owed the man for the fruit, turned from him and walked away, sheathing her weapon and turning into the nearest alleyway she could possibly find. She scaled a brick wall rather easily to sit on the roof and eat her fruit.

Nicholas frowned when he saw the sun; he was deep in The Wastes and . Yesterday, he had noticed some kind of dirt trail a ways away from the city. He waited until the next morning to go, though. Setting out, he had realized that the trail went on for a long time, surrounded by only plains. He wasn't sure where it was headed, but it was extremely well-worn and there were thousands of footprints all over. That was when Nick had noticed there was something odd about one... It was also when he looked around to check his surroundings again. So that was where he was now. "Crap!" Nicholas took off running, hoping he was going in the right direction along the trail. Behind him, he started hearing other sounds than his own footsteps. He sped up.
(a ways away. heh.)
When he arrived at the town, he felt like he could hardly walk. It was going to be hard scaling the wall. But when he glanced hopefully at the gate, it was still open. His eyes widened in panic and he hurried towards the gate, noticing that it was nightime.
He started yelling, "Hey! Hey! Close the gate! What are you doing? Close it!"
Just trying to add a little bit of plot here, as...well... no one else has. I'll leave it at that. And if I'm not supposed to be doing this, I'm fine with editing it.

*Chris* Watched the sun set over the mountains. She enjoyed watching how the colors changed from a bright yellow-white to a reddish-orange. She shivered as a slight breeze blew in and surrounded her bare arms. She looked around for someone to talk to.
Chris* Watched as the girl on the roof jumped the 30-40 feet down and came up unharmed. It impressed her, but she did know a bit of parkour herself. Something her uncle taught her. Her uncle had been outlawed a short time later, and no longer lived in the wastes. She shifted into a hawk and flew up to land softly beside the girl on the roof, who was eating oranges.
He heared a voice. "Hey! What are you doing? Close the gate, close it!" He ran to the gate and saw that the gatekeeper was nowhere to be found. He found the ladder leading to the top of the watchtower. Quickly climbing it, he grabbed the crank and started rotating it. He looked at the creature following the boy and frowned.

Nicholas ran under the gate, then looked up at Xeno, wondering why the gatekeeper wasn't wearing a uniform. Realizing the situation, though, he climbed up the ladder and helped with the gate, all the while talking. "Shouldn't the gate already be closed? Where's the gatekeeper?
Her thoughts were ricocheting around in her head, muddling her senses. Hopefully the vendor hadn't taken notice of the fact that Scarlet had climbed up the wall, otherwise there may be some trouble with guards later on, when they tracked her down and made her consent to pay the sum for which she owed. A rush of feathered wings, and a clatter of claws on cement caught her attention, and Scarlet's head turned sharply to the right. Her eyes landed on what seemed to be a large hawk sitting right next to her. What kind of bird would be stupid enough to land right next to her? Well, if this case proved true, a hawk would. Even though she had heard multiple times from many bird-raisers that hawks were rather clever. Scarlet placed an orange at the avid's talons, hoping that was the only thing it wanted.
Scarlet turned her head sharply to the right, watching as a boy rushed through the gates screaming rather loudly something about the gate. Her eyes wandering to a little farther behind the boy, she saw a dark creature--A Horror--following him through the path.
She got to her feet, and glanced at the bird sitting next to her. "Well if you'll excuse me, monsieur, madame, whatever be your gender, I think I'll be off to go redeem myself and pay up in service for these... Oranges."
She grinned widely. Scarlet wasn't one to resist partaking in chases, and she couldn't risk letting a Horror get into The Wastes. That would be absolutely devastating. Scarlet leapt off of the building, crouched into a roll, and ran towards the gate, diving through it just before it closed and ignoring the shouts of "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" and other various surprised comments. She let some of the dark hued blood drip onto the leaves of the forest, hoping to throw off the boy's scent and distract the creature just long enough for some archers to take the Horror down.
She at once re-stoppered the vial, put the black chain holding it back over her neck, and transformed into a glossy black-feathered crow, re-entering the city and landing right in the midst of the other people, transforming back into her human form and looking around rather awkwardly.

Oh, yes, by the way I didn't mean something was following Nick when I said he heard something behind him. I just meant that some horrors were starting to move around again. I don't really have much to say, but...
Nicholas finished closing the gate and jumped back down. "Where's the gatekeeper?"
*Chris* Flew off of the cliff and landed, and changed back to a human, next to scarlet. "You know, I'll think I'll join you." She hated waiting around the city all day, and she hadn't been in a fight for forever. She almost missed the blood on her t-shirt. She looked around, watching closely for horrors. She wondered they hadn't closed the gates. Every night since she had lived in this dismal place, they'd closed the gates. Of course, sometimes they weren't fast enough, or creatures got over or through the wall somehow. But they had always closed the gate.
Scarlet stared at the former hawk, an amused expression playing on her face for half a second before she eyed the boy who had just helped finish closing the gate. The question she heard come from his mouth: 'where's the gatekeeper', had really taken her aback. She thought the gatekeeper was... Well, she didn't know. The Gatekeeper was ALWAYS at the gate. There had only been a few occasions where the gatekeeper wasn't at the gate...
Scarlet shoved the seemingly-innocent passerby aside, making her way quickly to the boy, all of the while dragging the shifter behind her.
Her face was contorted into one of complete and utter discust, as if the boy standing in front of her was a large white maggot.
"The Gatekeeper. When did you see him last." It was more of a command then a question. Her left hand played idly with the hilt of her scimitar in almost a threatening way, waiting for the moment - if it came - that she should whip the weapon out of it's sheath and use it like it was supposed to be used. As a weapon.

Spotting trouble down below, Xeno jumped nimbly off the tall tower, opening his wings when he was 40 feet above the ground or so. "Now now," he said, walking up to the girl about o stab the guy who was being chased. "Let's not do anything we'd regret? Keep stabbing to a minimum, you know?" He sensed a fight coming and slowly started taking off his fedora.

Chris *stood silently next to Scarlet. She too wondered where the gatekeeper was. She expected the gatekeeper to be almost like a school teacher. The only place you see them is their classroom. Of course she had only been to school for about three days, but all the while, she had never seen her teachers out of school. Out of her belt she took a dagger and slowly lowered it to her side. She will use the dagger, but only when needed.
Scarlet looked at the other boy--the one who quite obviously had wings. She narrowed her eyes. "Stabbing? As far as I know (and I have been listening quite well to our conversation so far,) I never said I was going to stab anyone. I, for one, just like to always be on my guard. When you live in the shadows, caution is your closest friend. You never know when the next moron will try and pick a fight with you," she scoffed.
She watched as the winged figure removed his fedora, preparing for a possible fight outbreak. She stared at the two boys (men?), and at the shifter who had been following her around.
"Shall we restart this... Introduction..?" She smirked smartly, and held out her hand to them.
"It's a pleasure to meet you both. Many people call me Scarlet Hawthorne. And you are..?" She trailed off, leaving it to the other three to answer the question.

"Xenophilius Demonite." he said, shaking Scarlet's hand and grinning. "Glad we could get that figured out." He replaced his fedora on his head. "Now, as we all know, the Gatekeeper has disappeared. Have any of you considered the possibility that it could have been the horrors? I mean, he's had to battle then quite a lot, and they might have swarmed up, and.." He let his voice trail off.

Chris* "....and died" She said, finishing Xeno's sentence for him. "But I don't think that would've happened. Well it might've, hmmmmm." She held out her hand to Scarlet. "I actually don't believe we've met either. Well ok, I have been watching you, but i don't know your name." She thought that Scarlet looked like a sensible person, and a good fighter. A good person to have as a friend, and ally. "I'm Christine Forlight, but call me Chris."
Scarlet dipped her head politely at Xenophilius, and at Christine, also quite glad that the whole situation ended up in a good way. She addressed Xenophilius' idea of the Gatekeeper having been attacked by some of the Horrors. "No, that hasn't occured to me. What if it was... What are those things called... The infectious virus that infects your brain and practically makes you go absolutely insane..." She thought for a moment, and answered her own question briskly. "The Shadows.."
"You know, not very long ago, I was eavesdro--Ahem, I couldn't help but overhear a conversation between two merchants and their frantic concern for the archers at this time of year. Apparently Shadows breed during this time of year, but only on one single day or else they would overpopulate. "It would make perfect sense if the Gatekeeper had been taken by a Shadow.. One tiny little Shadow can take down a whole troop of men. All it would have to do is infect them one at a time.. It only takes about a week for the host of the Shadow to go completely insane. I can't think of anything else, the Shadow is the most likely Horror to attack a human.."
Scarlet stopped there.
She remained silent for a minute, sure she had something else she had been meaning to say.
"Ah," she said, remembering what she had wanted to say, "you never introduced yourselves." She noted to the boy with dark hair.

"Very true." said Xeno, turning to frown at the boy. "Oh, these?" he asked, watching Scarlet eye his wings, and he shook them slightly. "They're quite common in the Overworl-" he stopped abrubtly. Stupid! He thought to himself. You can't tell people about the Overworld! It's one of the laws.

"Um, sorry," Nicholas frowned. "I was thinking. Just a few hours ago I had found some kind of trail. I don't think it was human, though. There were too many footprints to tell the footprints apart, and right when I saw a good one I had to go. And... Is it normal around here to have wings? Last time I checked, it wasn't. But whatever." Nicholas shrugged, then remembered he still hadn't introduced himself. "Nicholas Cage. When I changed it I was thinking, 'Well, the world's ending. Might as well have a cool name when it does.' Well, the world didn't end, but I still have the cool name. Sadly, I won't be any physical help to your investigation until I can find another crow bar or something."
Chris "No it isn't normal but neither is this...' She formed easily into a cheetah, and then back to a human "Or this...." She formed now into a Hawk, then once again to human form. "And this isn't really normal either, but it is still fun!" She changed into a mouse and crawled up Xeno's leg.
"Ah!" he swatted at the girl (or mouse?) who just ran up his leg. "Anyway, shall we get a move on? You know, look for clues." He was a little hesitant at this, because even though he was a bit of a daredevil, he never got outside the gates at night if he could avoid it. "I think it might be the only way to figure out what really happened."

"I... Uh.... Uh... I-I'll remember to... Uh... Guard against that. I guess. As far as I know, that's not normal either.... In a number of different ways. Do you two even know each other?" Nicholas was perplexed. Was EvErYoNe around here weird in some way or other? Then Nicholas remembered the time and glanced around, realizing that the place was deserted. Nighttime had swallowed all. "Let's meet up tomorrow morning somewhere, okay? I've heard it gets a bit dangerous even in the town during the night. You know, with rogues and such. Anyone know where we could meet?
Scarlet thought for a moment, having been listening to their conversation from her own perspective.
She stared at Xeno, an amused expression on her face.
"Dangerous out here at night? It's completely satanic. I manage, though, and if I can survive through the night without going crazy, I bet you guys can." She smirked, as if she were giving them a challenge.
"But, if you insist upon meeting tomorrow.."
She looked around for a second. "We could meet up there," she pointed at the roof she had been on not a short while ago -- the one of the supermarket -- "well, if you can even get up there. I normally hang around roof-tops and such because they are secluded from most outside activity. You know?" She scratched the back of her head.

"Right." He yawned. "Well, see you then." He broke away from the group and started to head to his house.
Walking is so slow
he thought bitterley to himself. He missed the days where, when he visited the Dirtworld (Dirtworld is the Angel's name for Earth), he could fly up to 120 mph. No. He thought firmly to himself.
You'll get back up. Evenutally.
He sighed and walked inside.

Scarlet took his leaving as a sign to go, and she gave a deep bow to the others, immediately ran for the building, climbed up the wall lithely, and perched on the edge of the roof, hugging her knees tightly to her chest and shivering slightly in the cold. She was used to the harsh weather, she hadn't had a home in a very long time, now. Not since she had been abandoned in The Wastes and left to die by her parents. Fortunately for her, there was some life in The Wastes, and for the past five years or so, more and more people mysteriously showed up at The Wastes, making the conditions more... Livable. Even though many people (merchants and store owners, mainly) hated her for stealing, blackmailing, and giving not-so-empty death threats here and there.
She yawned widely, rubbing her eyes tiredly and staring out into the street lit by flickering oil-lamps. The night was rather silent. She could hear crickets, a soft breeze, and the occasional owl or two. The moon was large, bright and contrasting drastically against the blackness of the sky.

Chris *Watched Xeno leave, and then Scarlet. She turned into a hawk and flew off to her house. She was wondering where the guard had gone all the time. And through all the flight home, she was trying to come up with theories of where."
Nicholas watched them go, then took advantage of the opportunity and climbed into the gatekeeper's tower. Because of the gatekeeper's absence, he would be able to sleep there that night. There was lots of non-perishable food up there as well, and even A BED. Nicholas sighed to himself. He hadn't slept anywhere this good in ages.
(In case anyone objects, it is now the NEXT MORNING. 7:00 AM.)
Scarlet woke up with her calves hanging off of the building, resulting in the backs of her knees having a large rash and burning. She stood up painfully and stretched a bit, getting rid of some of the pain, then walked back over to the edge of the building and sat back down. There really wasn't much to do except for wait for the others to arrive. She reached for her neck to twist her vial of dark blood around in her fingers, a strange habit she had gotten into. She was surprised and a bit worried to find that it was not there.

Nicholas was the next to arrive. The wooden tower he had slept in was never disturbed during the night, which strengthened the theory that the gatekeeper was missing. He wondered who would have to open the gate that morning. Should they open it, or let the rest of the town find out that the gatekeeper was missing? No, he decided, nothing would ever get done with the other townsfolk investigating. He cranked up the gate and then ran over to the meeting place. "Anyone else here yet?"
"You have disowned and betrayed us." said a booming voice. "No!" said Xeno, looking up at him. The dark figure waved his hand, and the dark stone underneath him crumbled to dust. He was falling, falling, falling..
He woke up with a start. He looked at the clock. It said 8:12. He was late! He jumped off his roof, unsuccessfully tried to fly, and gliding about 10 feet from his house. He hit the ground running.
"Anyone else here?" he heared a voice say. "Here," said Xeno, panting, holding up his hand. "I the last one here? I overslept."

Chris *Woke with a start and looked around her. She had fallen asleep in a tree, again. She sighed and stretched. She then changed to a hawk and flew to the scheduled meeting place and landed next to Scarlet. "Good morning' She said with a huge yawn.
I'm flying above the Waste and see the meeting, and decide to check it out. I land behind the meeting and say "Hello, how you all doing today?" And look at the group and change into my human form.
Chris *Turns with a start toward Merry* Great! Oh wait! Just kidding! Well let's see, the guards missing, we assume he was taken by a horror, the gates up, and has been all night, and we are just about to go follow some mysterious footsteps to a seemingly evil horror, but other than that I'm great! I had a great flight over here, no attacks. I went for about a 50 mile run this morning in 15 minutes and I have already scared about 5 people by crawling up their pant legs! So far, this day's been great! *Smiles at Merry in a creepily happy way.

"Okay......that's great" Changes into dragon form, and says, "I'm going hunting, see you later." I fly over, grab a small deer, and fly back, and start eating my breakfast. "So you want my help, I assume. I've had a wonder full day so far, I've woke up, ate a snack and came here, and i am now eating my second breakfast."

That was me, I just accidentaly left Josh's account up.
Scarlet looked around at all of you, nodding slightly.
"Okay.. Unless I'm mistaken, it looks like everyone's here. How'd you all sleep?" She tried, a feeble attempt at a conversation starter. "Better than me, I assume... Stupid concrete.." She muttered under her breath, not expecting anyone to hear and nonchalantly swinging her arms back and forth.
"Oh.. And has anyone seen a little vial of blood? About this big? Attached to a thin black chain?" She raised her arm, leaving a space about three inches tall in between her pointer finger and thumb. She looked around at them hopefully.

Xeno looked at her questioningly. "A vial. Of blood. Why on earth would you carry that around? I haven't seen any vials, blood or otherwise. Well, except for this grape juice." He pulled out a large vial of grape juice. "I make it myself. It's pretty good, huh?" Well they don't seem to appreciate grapejuice very much, he thought to himself looking around at their faces. "So what about that freakin' dragon you forgot to mention? Where'd THAT come from?"

Starts staring at Xeno "I'm a THAT! I'm Merry." "I have no seen a vial of blood, why do you ask?" "If you said this to a much larger dragon, you'd be toast."
Scarlet stared at the dragon in front of them. "I have no idea how I didn't see that there.." She muttered under her breath. "Merry, eh?" She said, quite a bit louder than the latter comment she had made to herself.
She returned to the seemingly off-topic subject of her little vial on a chain that she regularly wore around her neck.
"Well.. I carry that vial around with me to throw off my scent, when running from werewo-Ahem, Horrors." She knew that the hunting of Horrors (Apart from Shadows, which the citizens of The Wastes had been trying to find a cure for for centuries,) in the forest was strictly forbidden. This was because quite a few people leading dangerous creatures into The Wastes in the dead of night and causing the archers to stay up rather late hunting them down. Scarlet has hunted and killed werewolves as a favorite past-time for years, and because of the fact hunting was strictly forbidden, she didn't like announcing the fact she wore the vial for the use of hunting werewolves.
"So... Seeing as we are all here, shall we set off? Oh.. And you all know the signs you've started to have been taken by Shadows, right..? Itchiness, delusions, strange cravings, the works? We wouldn't want any of us to become.. Infected.. Now would we?" She questioned them, tilting her head a fraction of an inch to the left and flashing them all a devious grin.

Chris *Looks around at them all with a weirded expression on her face* "You guys are all Craz....uh, I mean Interesting people, but yeah, we should get going" *She changes to a cheetah and walks alongside Scarlet.
Nicholas shrugged and ran to catch up. "Hey, the path is in the other direction. Unless you were talking about a different path... Is there another path around here leading to certain doom and destruction? If there is, I never noticed it." He started running the other way, towards the path.
Nicholas looked back at the group, at the same time seeing the unnaturally clean-smelling dog in the distance. "Are you guys coming or not? We're burning daylight!" Noticing they were still just standing there, he jogged back to the group. "Um... Are you coming? Is there a change of plan or something?" He looked around for some source of their distraction. "If you guys don't want to come... We could always just see where the gatekeeper is.... I guess..."
Chris *Senses that they are being watched, the hairs on her cheetah back stood up and she hissed, she saw with her predatorial (Lets pretend that's a word) skills a young man watching them behind a building, she changes to a mouse and scurries over to the man.
flying behind the main group, I see George, and i change into human form. "Hello Dogie, How you doing?" Gets ready for a fight, ready to change into dragon form at any moment.
